Natural Resources and CCUS Division

Overview of Support

Resource Development, Resource Recycling, CCUS
  • Supporting technological advancement of exploration/production/resource recycling for oil/gas/mineral resources to secure resource supply chains. Supporting the development of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Support Areas and Detailed Contents

Resource Development

Enhancement of domestic exploration technologies for petroleum/gas, development of full-cycle problem-solving technologies and securing mineral production technologies (exploration-development-utilization) for key mineral supply chains.

  • Petroleum/Gas Efficient implementation of national policy projects, including seabed resource exploration through the construction of a 3D/4D geophysical exploration research vessel and CCS and response to global issues
    * Integration of ICT technologies and expansion of application areas to enhance the efficiency of traditional exploration techniques.
  • Critical Minerals upport for the establishment of a stable supply chain for critical minerals* essential for carbon neutrality and future industrial growth, reponding to increasing demand.
    * Securing domestic titanium and molybdenum production technologies and developing full-cycle technologies for processing low-grade(Lithium, Nickel) resources abroad.

Resource Recycling

Securing supply chains through the development of resource recycling and remanufacturing technologies to mitigate the impact of resource supply instability and achieve carbon neutrality.

  • Resource Recovery Rematerialization of critical minerals (Lithium, Cobalt, Rare earth elements) related to new industries* and support for core technologies for common use** through resource circulation technology accumulation.
    * Development of preemptive recycling technologies for waste materials such as spent batteries, fuel cells, and process catalysts.
** Strengthening support for demand discovery and technology development in key areas such as raw material recovery and material recycling, applicable to both natural and recycled resources.
  • Remanufacturing upport for the establishment of a stable supply chain for critical minerals* essential for carbon neutrality and future industrial growth, reponding to increasing demand.
echnology development for remanufacturing waste machinery* 재제조 and support for technology development related to commercialization through the establishment of a quality evaluation· certification infrastructure for remanufactured products.
    * Development of remanufacturing technologies for industrial machinery, power equipment, and specialized vehicle engines, targeting machines that have been in use for over 10 years in Korea.

CCUS

Support for element technologies such as capture·storage·transportation to achieve the 2030 Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) target and accelerate the commercialization of CCUS technologies.

  • CCS Implementation of pilot projects* for domestic CO₂ storage site development and commercial-scale CCS demonstration projects to establish an industrial ecosystem.
    * Deriving large-scale offshore CO2 storage sites through comprehensive exploration of waters adjacent to the Korean Peninsula, and onshore carbon dioxide storage using abandoned mines.
  • CCU Support for the development of integrated CCU processes* for the petroleum refining/steel industries, and support for the enactment of legislation aimed at promoting the CCUS industry.
    * Development of CO₂ capture technologies, CO₂-based liquid fuel production technologies, and CO₂ conversion technologies.
