Renewable Energy

Overview of Support

Renewable Energy (Solar, Wind, etc.)
  • Enhancing industrial competitiveness and strengthening RE100 response through the development of core renewable energy technologies and the establishment of an industrial ecosystem focused on future markets.
  • Expanding the proportion of energy independence and responding to energy security crises by securing renewable energy sources based on domestic technology.

Support Areas and Detailed Contents

Solar Power

Focused support for the early commercialization of tandem solar cells, diversification of application areas, establishment of a circular economy, and enhancement of public acceptance to secure global competitiveness for the next-generation solar cell market and expand domestic solar power adoption.

  • Early Commercialization of Tandem Solar Cells Intensive investment in next-generation tandem solar cells* to achieve 35% efficiency for tandem cells and 28% efficiency for modules by 2030.

    * Perovskite/crystalline silicon tandem solar cells (Hereinafter “tandem cells”) are designed by layering a perovskite thin film on top of a crystalline silicon solar cell, maximizing the utilization of different wavelengths of sunlight. They are considered the most promising candidate among next-generation solar cells.

  • Diversification of Applications Expanding application areas through the utilization of idle spaces and developing ICT-integrated services.
  • Circular Economy Developing low-carbon solar modules to achieve a circular economy in the solar industry and expanding recycling/reuse.
  • Enhancing Acceptance Developing technology linked to policies‧ regulations‧standards to improve grid flexibility and public acceptance.

Wind Power

Supporting the development of ultra-large wind power system design/manufacturing technologies to foster the wind power industry eco-system, the advancement of wind power materials/components for expanding exports and strengthen the competitiveness of domestic companies.

  • Ultra-Large Wind Turbines Strengthening the competitiveness of domestic wind power supply chains by developing ultra-large turbines (20MW-class and above) and localizing core components, expanding offshore wind markets and leading global supply chain.
  • Floating Offshore Wind Platforms Developing various types of floating structures, such as semi-submersible and tension-leg platforms and 20MW-class and larger turbines. Securing cost competitiveness through cost reduction of key floating platform components for domestic and international market expansion.
  • Wind Farm Operation & Management Developing wind farm design o improve utilization rates and reduce maintenance·management costs for large-scale wind power farms. Technological development of based O&M platform Big Data·AI.

Bioenergy

Supporting the development of technologies for sustainable transportation biofuels, eco-friendly biofuel production, and next-generation biofuel production and utilization.

  • Transportation Biofuels Technologies for the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), biodiesel production, and diversification of raw materials.
  • Eco-Friendly Biofuels Technologies for producing and utilizing solid fuel derived from livestock manure.
  • Next-Generation Biofuels Technologies for producing and utilizing next-generation biofuels using non-food feedstocks, microalgae, etc.
